What's that about counting chickens?

Maybe Rush will stick to it, but let us stroll down memory lane, shall we?

And this doesn't even count guys like Chris Paul, Antawn Jamison, Corey Maggette, and Mike Dunleavy among others - all guys who said they were coming back and didn't...emotion can get the best of these guys, especially after the disappointment of a big loss.

Just something to keep in mind...

Yeah, but only one of those guys was a freshman. And Rush doesn't have the financial situation to worry about with his brother's paychecks coming in. May, Felton, and McCants were all juniors. That makes a big difference. Plus Rush's tournament went much differently than May's and is seen as a late first round because his ballhandling is such a liability. The guy has no left hand. He's not expected to be a lottery pick anymore, unlike past freshmen like Kidd and Maggette.

I understand all that...I'm just saying that while that statement may make you feel better right now, I would wait until May before you start getting too comfortable...lots of guys say thwy are coming back and they may even mean it...doesn't mean much when agents start waving cash around. I'm willing to bet Dunleavey had more money than Rush and it didn't keep him in school.

Again, Dunleavy was a junior and had already won a national championship. He had nothing left to prove in college. That is a much different situation regardless of the money situation.

If I were a UNC fan, I'd be much more worried about Hansbrough leaving early.

The point is it doesn't matter what year a guy is...lots of guys have said they were coming back and then they talk to scouts or they hear the rumors and they don't. As you said, Rush is already older than the typical freshman, he isn't the best student, and this draft will be one of the weakest in memory.

I think you shouldn't get too excited about this statement until the deadline to enter the draft has gone. I know I will be paying attention to what Tyler does. A statement immediately following a disappointing tourney loss in no way forecloses the possibility that Rush will leave also. You should just take it with a grain of salt.
