West Coast Hatin Vol 8: NCAA day 1

My thoughts for day 1:

1. Syracuse: I feel bad for McNamara. 4 games/4 days; It would be hard to then start another tourney as a dreaded 5 seed against a team on a roll (Tex AM)

2. Duke: Wow, that was another underwhelming performance. Greg Paulus should not be allowed to give anymore interviews. Who is this "we" he keeps talking about. Duke is a two man team.

3. San Diego State: Had the upset in hand with two minutes left but too many turnovers and missed free throws.

4. Tennessee: I'm glad the TarHeels have Tenn as the two seed in the bracket. They looked terrible.

5. Gonzaga: If they continue to survive, UCLA is going to humiliate them.

6. BC: That was an escape.

7. MVC: Wow, Creighton beat Seton Hall (a team that Duke beat by 40+ points earlier this year.) The real test is today to see if that league can pull off some upsets.

MVC: 1-0; four teams alive ACC: 2-0; four teams alive

It was Wichita State, not Creighton.

Comparing the MVC with only one higher seed to the ACC with a 1, 3, 4, and only one lower seed is pretty unfair. If the MVC doesn't win another game, they've already done as expected, based on seeding. Any other wins are just gravy. Compare that to the ACC, expected to go 3-1 in first round, place 3 teams in Sweet 16, 2 in Elite 8, and 1 Final Four. We'll see how that holds up. It's not like Duke has been stellar as a 1 seed. In the last 10 years they've had 7 #1 seeds (not counting this year's yet, and Dickie V is wrong saying 9 in 10 (dumbshit - do some research)) yet only 3 Final Fours to show for it. They consistently underperform.

Comparing MVC to ACC is as asinine as Billy Packer comparing historical MVC to Big East and ACC records for the same reason. It's not a fair comparison when the ACC and Big East always get higher seeds. What's more telling is that 2 Big East teams have already lost as higher seeds.

On another note, I find it funny that everybody has been hyping the Big 10 as one of the Top 2 conferences and the ACC as weak, yet the ACC again kicked ass in the ACC-Big 10 challenge. Even Tech almost beat MSU.

And blast Seton Hall all you want. The result would've been the same had Wichita State played FSU, Maryland, Cinci, or Michigan. Turgeon would've outcoached any of those underachievers. You should be happy they won and face UT next, because you may be facing the Shockers in the Sweet 16.

It would be cool if the Shockers played UNC. Turgeon worked as an assistant to Roy at Kansas before upgrading to a superior Larry Brown in Philadelphia. I would love to see Wichita State pull off that upset. Now that would be funny.
