Spider-Man 3 Review

Since Cullen won't do it, I'll step in.
As comic books go, I'd consider myself more of a DC fan. It's not that I have something against Marvel; I just didnt read them. That being said, I really enjoyed the first two Spidey movies, with 2 being the best. Spidey 3 looked pretty good from the previews but one thing I noticed from the start was that there were a lot of villains. RED FLAG.

I hasnt worked in other movies [SEE Batman Forever; I would say Batman & Robin but that movie didnt happen]. Well, the 3 villain formula didnt in Spidey 3 either. The third introduced us to Sandman, the new Goblin (Harry Osbourne) and Venom. They had one too many. They should have left out Sandman; the movie tried to make us care about him and explain that he's criminal only to save his daughter. blah blah. didnt care. And I've seen the scenes of huge character made of sand before - it was called the Mummy.

Bright spots from the movie: Bryce Dallas Howard (as Gwen Stacy). damn she looked hot as a blonde, especially considering that she was preggers during the filming. Tobey Maguire and James Franco were very good once again. But the scene stealers were Topher Grace as the venom/eddie brock (he was pretty damn funny) and Bruce Campbell cameos as a maitre 'd (hilarious scene).

All in all, i give it a B-. Could have been much better if they left out Sandman and expanded on the other villains and given more screen time to Bryce.

Yeah, when did Bryce get hot? Maybe she's just glowingly pregnant, or putting on the weight in all the right places.

I was a little let down by the movie for the same reasons. There was just too much going on for one picture. Part of the charm of Spiderman 2 was they spent a lot of time on Doc Ock and gave him extra dimension as a villain. And it worked.

In Spiderman 3, they try to do the same thing with Sandman but they don't give it enough time and the sick daughter bit feels cliched. And like JD said, the Sandman FX were cool, but I've seen them before.

Without giving anything away, I liked the ending.

And now we can speculate for SM4

My Vote for the next three:

SM4
Kraven + The Lizard. I don't know if people remember when they relaunched Spiderman with Todd McFarlane and the first few issues were with a bulked up Lizard. That would be sweet and Connors has already been introduced sans arm so not much backstory needed. Also I would throw in a wedding between Parker and MJ and have Kraven spoil the honeymoon. I would also stay true to the comic and have Kraven kill himself after thinking he bagged Spiderman.

SM5: Carnage. Connors saved a little bit of the venom suit in the lab. It gets out. It finds that serial killer. Spiderman gets his ass beat for two hours straight. Carnage has no sick daughter, no plan to save the world through energy, no need to regrow an arm, etc, he's just pure chaos. Carnage kills Gwen Stacy. Black Cat provides some extra filler and a temptation to Spidey.

SM6: The Sinister Six: I'd finish the franchise with this one. Rebuild the Sininster Six with Dr. Doom (crossover, yes!), Scorpion, The Vulture, Mysterio, Shocker, and Rhino. Or bring in Hobgoblin or Kingpin. Spidergirl is born.
