The Truth
JJ sucks. Coach K is an asshole. Blah, blah, blah. It's like a broken record with Jav. We get it! (I guess I'd bitch about it too if my team got blown out). I'll say this about JJ; he isn't even in the top 3 Duke players of all time. And here's an interesting question: would anyone really hate JJ if he didnt play at Duke?
But honestly, what the hell else is their to talk about in the ACC this year? Sure, Roy is probably doing one of his finest coaching jobs but that team is a bunch of uninteresting no-names. Hansborough isnt making anyone forget about Rasheed. For that matter, there aren't very many good stories in college basketball period. Three biggest stories so far: 1) JJ is good, 2) Adam Morrison can score and has a funny mustache, and 3) Bruce Pearl is good coach who wears an ugly orange jacket and sweats profusely. However, if Morrison played on east coast, he'd be the runaway POY.
All the JJ/Vitale haters should appreciate this link, http://sicneill.blogspot.com/
* Cullen is right. Showtime is slowly catching up with HBO. I added Showtime this season just for the L Word. The last 2 seasons were good. Unfortunately, the three hottest girls don't get naked enough: Jennifer Beals, Sarah Shahi and Erin Daniels. And because of L Word, it got me addicted to Sleeper Cell. Good show, closest thing to 24 on TV.
* Today's NBA update, Jav needs to pay more attention to the former Jayhawks because he's missing Paul Pierce have a career year. I watched the Celtics-Lakers game last night and the PP Man was just dominant from opening tip. He was unguardable and had two vicious dunks on Smush Parker and Chris Mihm disrespectively. Oh and this season, he's leading the C's in points, assists, steals and REBOUNDS. It'd be a damn shame if Boston traded him in the summer.
* Here's why I hate Vince Carter (excerpt from Sports Guy column)
"Two weeks ago, I attended a Clips-Nets game two days after Vince Carter tweaked his back in Utah. Knowing Vince would play, knowing the Clips would stick Quentin Ross (aka, "Bruce Bowen 2.0") on him, knowing that Vince would probably struggle, I almost felt like starting a "When will Vince pull and Exit Stage Right during the game?" pool in my section. He came out firing (the back looked fine, by the way) before realizing that Ross would be hounding him all game. Eventually, he stopped going within 20 feet of the basket.
So I'm sitting there waiting for him to start stretching, wincing and doing all the other stuff that Vince does when he wants the crowd to know that he's thinking about packing it in for the night. At the end of the first half, he had one point. Midway through the third, he had 3 points and the Nets were down by 20. Then there was a 2-on-1 with Kidd when Vince stepped on someone's foot, landed a little awkwardly, waved to his bench as the whistle was blown, then kept right on jogging ... right into the runway and into the locker room. We never saw him again. Even better, we knew right away that he wasn't coming back. I just hope I get a chance to tell this story on "SportsCentury And Beyond: Vince Carter" some day."
(Note: I would give VC's All-Star spot to Michael Redd, someone who actually plays hard every night and respects the fans who supported him from day one. Novel concept.)
