Dickson Returns!! With fantasy football on the brain

I needed to take a week's hiatus to focus on my new job. That's I'm no longer working at a law firm and billing hours. As of Monday, I'm back at the network that I worked at 2 years ago, the Shop At Home Network (NOT the Home Shopping Network). It's great time to be part of this network now. They're (we're) now owned by the same company that owns, Food Network, HGTV, Fine Living and Do-It-Yourself Network. We have chef Emerill Lagasse on our network now. And we were on the front cover of the Wall Street Journal last week. We're currently 3rd behind QVC and HSN but we're gaining on HSN. Good times. But let's move on to more important matters.

I've been doing some thinking about Fantasy Football this year. Word is travelling somewhere for a live draft will have to wait at least until next year. No big deal. But here are some new things to consider.

1) We need to make things more interesting to the how do I put this...not so talented managers among us (you know who you are). Weekly cash awards to the top scorer each week. This ensures everyone will remain interested every week.

2) Instead of weekly awards, we could expand to 10 teams. Then expanding the playoffs to allow more teams in (probably 6) and then awarding payouts to the top 4 teams. This way the annual losers in our group, (cough) Gil and Tim, (sorry I think have a cold) have a chance to win something. Expanding to 10 would be the ONLY way this would work.

3) Possible keeper league. At the end of the year or before the next year's draft, we select two players to keep on our rosters for the following season. We'll also select a third player as an alternate keeper in the event one of our keepers retires/suffers a season ending injury (kudos to B this idea). Everyone else goes back into the draft. Also, the draft order would go according to finish the previous season or would could make things even more interesting by having a lottery (giving the best chances of winning to the worst teams).

3) Uping the fee to $20-25 which you can send to the commish via paypal at the start of the season. Ensuring everyone's money is collected and dispersed as early as possible.

4) Settting a time for all roster additions. A gentlemen's agreement not to select anyone off waivers until let's say Monday @ noon eastern time or even an hour prior to Monday night football. This is basically a rule to police those in front of computers all the time, namely me. Or we could even set a $ fee for each roster addition. Either way, allegedly unfair, in-game roster moves will be reduced if not eliminated.

Yes, all of these rules would test my accounting skills. But I can easily maintain that info and make sure everyone knows about it.

More to follow...
